The company initially revised matchmaking factors last year in what it called Prime Matchmaking, which matched players who had linked a unique phone number to their Steam account. Later on, Valve also added that players must reach a certain in-game level to get into Prime Matchmaking. CS:GO ranks, explained
Today I want to talk about it in detail — how are CS:GO ranks really calculated and which factors have an impact on ranking up and down. The Elo-System was originally defined in chess. Maybe you already heard of Glicko-2 before? Glicko-2 is a rating system that is used in CS:GO, just like the Elo from chess but it goes deeper and adds two more variables:.

Counter-strike: Global Offensive has a new matchmaking system which takes into account your behaviour across Steam – not just in CS:GO. Valve’s new system assigns every player a hidden value, known as their Trust Factor. This score is derived from how you have played CS:GO – whether you have had reports lodged against you for cheating, for example – but also your activities in other Steam games.
In a blog post explaining the system, Valve said it deliberately avoiding explaining what other activities it was monitoring that would be folded into your Trust Factor value. Trust Factor is an alternative system to CS:GO’s current Prime Matchmaking option, which matched players who linked their game account to a unique phone number. Prime will remain a matchmaking option “in the short term”, Valve stated.
Matches using the Trust Factor system had already generated fewer reports of players encountering cheaters. That being said, in general we’re looking at your past experience in CS:GO and on Steam, to ensure the system is as accurate as possible. Sounds fair. The more you play, the more information the system has and the easier it will be for the system to determine who you should be matched with.

Sign in. Getting Started. Steamworks Documentation. Overview Steam’s peer-to-peer matchmaking is built around the concept of a lobby. A lobby is a entity that lives on the Steam back-end servers that is a lot like a chat room. Users can create a new lobby; associate data with a lobby; search for lobbies based on that data; join lobbies; and share information with other users in the lobby.
A single lobby can have up to users in it, although typically most games have at most players. Skill-based matchmaking is built on top of this system. The Steam peer-to-peer matchmaking API is a set of functions that enable users to find other users to play a game with.

During October 1, update, replaced “Join in Progress” matchmaking system with “Queued” matchmaking. Searching for a selected game mode is available from Main menu in “Find a Game” or by creating Lobby via “Play with Friends” menu item. Currently in beta, Prime Account Matchmaking was added as part of the April 21, update. Starting with the June 15, update, a profile rank of Lieutenant Rank 21 or above is also needed to participate. To complete the process, a valid phone number must be entered to “upgrade” the player’s account to “Prime” status.
Users with Prime accounts will be matched accordingly with other Prime account users. As part of the Prime account service, only a single account can be registered to a phone number, meaning the player cannot upgrade additional account to Prime status without having a separate phone number or reaching Lieutenant Rank In the November 13, update, Trust Factor was implemented for a better matchmaking experience.
Trust Factor is calculated by a number of factors, which include but are not limited to: hours spent playing CS:GO and other games, the age of one’s Steam account, the frequency with which one is reported for cheating and whether one is elligible for Prime etc. The exact algorithm is not divulged by Valve.

CS:GO – How do I connect to a match?
Players take a lot of pride in their CS:GO ranks. That shiny badge on your profile is what your countless hours in competitive matchmaking, learning precise smoke placements, and coordinating with others is all for. Despite how much players fret over their skill group level, there’s not a lot of clear information out there explaining how CS:GO ranks actually work.
Generally, improving your skills and winning matches will eventually see you ascend the ladder, but Valve remains tight-lipped about the inner workings of CS:GO’s ranking system. To help you understand this system better, I’ve collected the best-available information from Valve and a variety of other sources.
I always get an error saying “Failed to find offical servers”, “Failed to connect to match”, “Connection failed”, or “Could not connect to matchmaking.
Every player receives a rank depending on his skill. The ranks were introduced to avoid unequal matches and this way to improve the enjoyment of the game. The players receive their rank after winning 10 matchmaking matches max. There are ranks from simple silver I to Global Elite. There are total of 18 levels in the game. If you are ranked in one of the levels, this level covers a wide range of ranking ELO points.
So 2 people ranked as MGE could be still far away from each other in ranking system. Winning is important, but there are cases of players, that ranked-up or de-ranked after a draw or even de-ranked after win or ranked-up after lose. That confirms the theory, that what really matters are the wins of individual rounds in the match. Since the ELO points are not based on win or loss, but on round results, both promotion and demotion are possible when a draw happens.
What happends in the match afterwards does not affect his ELO points. Kick does not affect his points either. So what is the point? Every player with no matchmaking experience has to win 10 matches before getting his rank.
